Day 38 Eureka Nv. to Austin Nv. 70 miles

remnants of mining operations

All these little towns spaced out along Rt. 50 were once silver mines back in the late 1800's. For one reason or another these boom towns did not stay in existence very long. Whats left of them is only a shell of there former selves. Most are just holding on by a thread, relying on tourism and the lore that is rt.#50. They all look very much the same. Baker,Ely Eureka, Austin. A couple of gas stations, motels with western names, a casino restaurant and many boarded up buildings. It would be a shame to see this all disappear.
